Dr. Hossein Kazemian
Lab Director
Dr. Hossein Kazemian is a Faculty member and Head of the Northern Analytical Laboratory Services at UNBC. He is an Analytical Chemist (PhD, C. Chem, MCIC, FIAAM) with many years of experience as a senior analytical, environmental, and material chemist and a team leader in both academia and industry with extensive background on synthesis, characterization, properties and environmental applications (for water, air and soil remediation processes).
Erwin Rehl
Analytical Lab Specialist
Affectionately known as the “Metals Guy” in the lab, Erwin specializes in dissolving difficult samples to find out their metals content by ICP-MS and ICP-OES. But don’t let that fool you! Erwin brings over 20 years of method development skills to the NALS team and has a BSc and MSc in Chemistry (UNBC). He is also particularly fond of the materials testing side of the lab and enjoys Scanning Electron Microscopy, Thermogravimetry Analysis, Particle Size analysis, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, and Differential Scanning Colorimetry.
Charles Bradshaw
Analytical Lab Specialist
Charles is Analytical Lab Specialist at UNBC with extensive analytical expertise in instrumentation, in particular, relating to chromatography. He has two B.Sc. degrees in Chemistry and Biology. He is currently completing a M.Sc. at the University of Northern BC in Environmental Science and has over a decade of vocational experience providing accredited lab services. He has a proven track record for facilitating and successfully managing research projects for various clients.
Mya Schouwenburg
Analytical Lab Specialist (Industrial Hygiene)
Mya is the newly minted member of the NALS team with a BSc in Chemistry (UNBC) and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Environmental Science. She has over 5 years of experience in method development and working in a lab setting and has been a research assistant with NALS since May 2019 where she has focused on field sampling and method development for the chemical analysis of airborne particulate matter. She has experience with the analysis of environmental and workplace air samples by ICP-OES, IC, GC-FID, and ICP-MS. You might have seen her on a roof in Prince George working with a spaceship like contraption. Don’t worry it’s just an air sampler.
Dorna Sobhani
Analytical Lab Specialist (Research Project Management)
Dorna is the newest member of the NALS who joined the team as an UNBC alumni. She finished her second MSc in Environmental Science (UNBC) in April 2023 while she already had a BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering. Dorna has over 5 years of experience in lab work and has been a research assistant with NALS since May 2020. She is passionate about research, especially real-world projects and has a proven record for facilitating and managing research projects.
